About Me

David Sladkey was named the 2019 Presidential Awardee for Mathematics and Science Teaching for the state of Illinois  (PAEMST.org).  He was named Teacher of the Year for Naperville (Illinois) School District 203 while teaching mathematics at Naperville Central High School in 2007.  During his 37 years of teaching, he created a positive classroom atmosphere by encouraging students to get out of their seats to learn, be curious, embrace mistakes, and to work collaboratively. David is the author of Energizing Brain Breaks, a Corwin Publications bestseller.  He is a frequent conference presenter at the state, national, and international levels. David received his B.A. in education and B.S. in mathematics at North Park University in Chicago and his M.A. in curriculum and instruction at Northern Illinois University. David is married with three children and 5 grandsons. David is an avid bicyclist.  He shares his adventures in via Instagram at ​@pedaling.stories
